Summary

The Laws of Spirit opens with the story of Dan Millman’s encounter with a sage in the wooded hills near his home。 Through stories, tests, and experiences in the wild, the sage challenges Millman to examine 12 core principles that underlie human existence: balance, choice, process, presence, compassion, faith, expectation, integrity, action, cycles, surrender, and unity。 The book shows how these keys — at the heart of every religion, culture, and moral system — can lead to a deeper sense of meaning, connection, and harmony with the world。 It also shows readers how these principles can transform relationships, careers, finance, and health。 Quotations and reminders from across the centuries inform and inspire readers as they accompany Millman on his journey。

I have read this a few times。 Great lessons in a slow moving allegory。

This is a book that you buy and keep with you。 All of his books are worth owning a physical copy。 Every time you read it, you gain more understanding。

I savored each chapter of this book。 Dan Millman walks readers through a series of twelve laws of wisdom through a story in which the main character, a traveler, learns from a wise sage。 (I visualized the story as myself learning from my High Self。) I appreciated how Millman wove nature into these laws as the sage and the traveler wander a mountain。 The nature aspect was a constant reminder to come back to ourselves—back to our humanity。My favorite of the laws is the Law of Expectation。 “Energy I savored each chapter of this book。 Dan Millman walks readers through a series of twelve laws of wisdom through a story in which the main character, a traveler, learns from a wise sage。 (I visualized the story as myself learning from my High Self。) I appreciated how Millman wove nature into these laws as the sage and the traveler wander a mountain。 The nature aspect was a constant reminder to come back to ourselves—back to our humanity。My favorite of the laws is the Law of Expectation。 “Energy follows thought; we move toward, but not beyond what we can imagine。 What we assume, expect, or believe creates and colors our experience。 By expanding our deepest beliefs about what is possible, we change our experience of life” (57)。 I found myself asking, “What are my core beliefs that set in motion self-fulfilling prophecies?” For example, perhaps I believe a coworker to be uneducated。 I may treat her differently simply because of this belief。 These beliefs affect my energy, which will either draw people near to me or further away。 We have incredible power to use positivity to shape our lives (62)。 Millman reminded me of the importance of setting intentions and visualizing joy and fulfillment。 Another favorite law of mine is the Law of Surrender。 Sometimes we try to swim upstream and resist every situation that comes our way, but it is sometimes best to go with the flow and surrender to the situation。 Each problem that we encounter is training us to reach our highest selves。This tiny book held huge nuggets of wisdom。 I know I will return to it again and again。 。。。more

Wise taleHighly recommend。 Knocked it out on a day off。 Didn't reAlly put it down。 Made my earth bound self reconnect with my higher self。 A lot of work I have been putting off。 Thanks again Dan, will likely hand a few of these out during Christmas to the less dense friends and family。 Wise taleHighly recommend。 Knocked it out on a day off。 Didn't reAlly put it down。 Made my earth bound self reconnect with my higher self。 A lot of work I have been putting off。 Thanks again Dan, will likely hand a few of these out during Christmas to the less dense friends and family。 。。。more

This was a game changer。 It is a list of all the ways I want to live my life, and I love the fictional twist since it makes it very relatable!

A really full-spirit short story。 I am not sure if the laws mentioned here are based on another book or philosophy but certainly, I loved them。

A very beautiful little book, sharing important and deep messages about the spiritual and alchemical laws governing the universe and our lives。

The book is amazing! There are some long words in the book that are sometimes hard to understand but never the less a book worth reading!

A short but powerful book! A great refresher course on spiritual truths。 Recommended for people new to these ideas and also those that are already familiar, but just want a reminder。

BULLSHIT。 Crappy writing。 Full of encourage bias and dismisses all science by attributing it to a “higher will” the “Spirit” which is obviously the author’s own idea of his God。

I absolutely love this book。 It supports me when I have questions or need some other perspective on a situation。 The laws of spirit is a book that can be read daily, or a book study with close friends to discuss the reading。 I don’t even put this book on the shelf。 I keep it near my reading chair, as I use it often。 It really helps me in making decisions。 It give me a sort of purpose on becoming the person I want to be I。 This world。

It took me a while to finish this book。 It’s the kind of books you really need to read twice or more to finally comprehend the writer’s word。 Some sentences you can quickly pass by and some really need thinking and understanding。 Dan Millman is clever and a very wise writer。 He really showed some wise ideas and pattern of thinking or the laws of spirit as he wishes to call them。 The 12 ideas he mentioned each are supported with several examples for the reader to comprehend them。 However, as the It took me a while to finish this book。 It’s the kind of books you really need to read twice or more to finally comprehend the writer’s word。 Some sentences you can quickly pass by and some really need thinking and understanding。 Dan Millman is clever and a very wise writer。 He really showed some wise ideas and pattern of thinking or the laws of spirit as he wishes to call them。 The 12 ideas he mentioned each are supported with several examples for the reader to comprehend them。 However, as the sage in the story says, those ideas cannot be memorized but they are to be implemented and practiced。 What I can say is that this book is a great book and the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the writer didn’t introduce the characters very well and wasn’t engaging enough。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this short little book。 It is more of a pure parable than a biography-parable like Way of the Peaceful Warrior (which I recommend reading as a first introduction to Dan Millman's writing)。 Some quotes:- "Compassion is the recognition that we are each doing the best we can within the limits of our current beliefs and capabilities。"- "Trust in Allah, but tie your camel。" [old saying]- "You may choose one path over another, then meet with great hardship and difficulty as a result o I really enjoyed this short little book。 It is more of a pure parable than a biography-parable like Way of the Peaceful Warrior (which I recommend reading as a first introduction to Dan Millman's writing)。 Some quotes:- "Compassion is the recognition that we are each doing the best we can within the limits of our current beliefs and capabilities。"- "Trust in Allah, but tie your camel。" [old saying]- "You may choose one path over another, then meet with great hardship and difficulty as a result of that decision。 Does that necessarily mean it was the wrong choice in terms of your highest good and learning?" 。。。more

Rating: 3/5Unlike most other self transformation or new age (depending on how old you are) read actually tells a story while giving you the laws of the spirit。 Like most books in its catagory, the same message is given, just worded differently than those that came before it。 Just like Waiting for Autumn, the book is about a man who meets a sage who has lived several lives and takes him on a journey through woods and mountians。 All the while the man realizes how clueless he is。 As someone who is Rating: 3/5Unlike most other self transformation or new age (depending on how old you are) read actually tells a story while giving you the laws of the spirit。 Like most books in its catagory, the same message is given, just worded differently than those that came before it。 Just like Waiting for Autumn, the book is about a man who meets a sage who has lived several lives and takes him on a journey through woods and mountians。 All the while the man realizes how clueless he is。 As someone who is well read in metaphysics I would not make this your first read; I would start with something like The Secret or any law of attraction book。 I feel that trying to tell a story makes it less interesting than just learning and could easily steer a curios reader away from a whole new life。 I would read this only if you are interested in having a story to follow along while you are learning。 Unfortunately, describing the laws and how they would fit into your life would require a much longer post。 I will be doing that post on my Wordpress。 But, if anyone is interested in that post; please contact me and I will talk to you one or one or direct you to the post。 。。。more

I don't know when I first started reading this。 From the publication date and the fact that Millman is a favorite author of someone I met before I joined FPCC in 2007, I'd guess it was early 2000's。 I hadn't gotten very far into it though。I rediscovered it as I was decluttering, deciding whether or not to get rid of books I've never gotten to, and discovering that several of them are appropriate for where I'm at right now。 It reinforced some of my more recent learnings--like the power in recogni I don't know when I first started reading this。 From the publication date and the fact that Millman is a favorite author of someone I met before I joined FPCC in 2007, I'd guess it was early 2000's。 I hadn't gotten very far into it though。I rediscovered it as I was decluttering, deciding whether or not to get rid of books I've never gotten to, and discovering that several of them are appropriate for where I'm at right now。 It reinforced some of my more recent learnings--like the power in recognizing that we have choices (there is ALWAYS a choice, even if you don't like any of the options), the importance of living in the moment and trusting Spirit, the Unity of all things/people, energy follows thought。 。。。more

If you have read the "Shack" then you will enjoy reading to quick, easy, straight, and to the point read。 I learned so much in such a short time about the spirit。 This book is not boring at all。 The mini lessons of explanation you would think would be pure common sense, but we as human flesh make things so much more difficult。 All I could do was laugh。 So worth the 110 page read。 My kind of book。 If you have read the "Shack" then you will enjoy reading to quick, easy, straight, and to the point read。 I learned so much in such a short time about the spirit。 This book is not boring at all。 The mini lessons of explanation you would think would be pure common sense, but we as human flesh make things so much more difficult。 All I could do was laugh。 So worth the 110 page read。 My kind of book。 。。。more

Meh。 I had to read it for a class。So I love chocolate except when it is presented to me as mousse。 This book is like chocolate mousse to me。 I basically live by the ideas inside of it but it's presentation isn't my cup of tea。 It came off very mystical and pseudoscience-ish。 That is just how I look at it though。 I imagine I'm an anomaly when it comes to this kind of stuff。 Meh。 I had to read it for a class。So I love chocolate except when it is presented to me as mousse。 This book is like chocolate mousse to me。 I basically live by the ideas inside of it but it's presentation isn't my cup of tea。 It came off very mystical and pseudoscience-ish。 That is just how I look at it though。 I imagine I'm an anomaly when it comes to this kind of stuff。 。。。more

Had been meaning to read this book by Dan Millman for a few years and just could never get into it。 Finally, last month, I read it for a yoga teacher class。 We delved quite deeply into the small book and were asked to make tangible connections from the concepts and ideas in the book to our lives, our teaching, and our own experience。 I am glad it was part of a yoga curriculum- otherwise I cold have seen myself skimming though it and blithely moving on。Small book。 Big, juicy concepts。 Simply writ Had been meaning to read this book by Dan Millman for a few years and just could never get into it。 Finally, last month, I read it for a yoga teacher class。 We delved quite deeply into the small book and were asked to make tangible connections from the concepts and ideas in the book to our lives, our teaching, and our own experience。 I am glad it was part of a yoga curriculum- otherwise I cold have seen myself skimming though it and blithely moving on。Small book。 Big, juicy concepts。 Simply written。 。。。more
